I wanted to introduce you to a new law enforcement training program set to launch in the first week in May, 2007. It comprises a wellness program I designed based on my experience as a law enforcement Master Instructor and police veteran to specifically address the most serious problem facing law enforcement today.
-
Officers will die 12 to 15 years sooner than the average person.
-
Officer's experience heart disease and diabetes at higher rates than the average person.
-
This year approximately 80 officers will be murdered in the line of duty. More than 300 will take their own lives.
-
Divorce rates for law enforcement families are outrageous.
-
Police Officers in America today are in worse physical condition that the average person.
The top disablers of officers are:
-
Heart disease
-
Cancer
-
Gastrointestinal disorders
-
Back injuries
-
Substance abuse
The cards are stacked against us and in many cases these issues are, as Gordon Graham says; "Predictable and therefore preventable". The truth is that often our lifestyle choices support these negative outcomes.
I have designed a 3-day, Ready Warrior, training program specifically to target these serious issues. It's time to change the training paradigm for law enforcement and to empower a lasting cultural change that will become a standard in policing. The time for this training is now!
Think this is just another wellness program? Think again. I have assembled the most respected subject matter masters in their particular fields to address the following tasks, true skills and knowledge, officers and dispatchers need to combat the problems head on:
-
Ergonomics & back care. Not theory, hands on practice to give you the skills you need designed by a professional who understands the unique ergonomic issues faced by law enforcement.
-
Fitness through core conditioning. This optional training is hands on, designed by an amazing personal trainer to help you become a street athlete. Every fitness level is welcome to participate in this training.
-
Nutrition. Not some cookie cutter approach, we are talking about nutrition in the world of policing with strategies that are effective and simple to implement.
-
Rapport & communication skills: This is like nothing you have ever experienced before because it is targeted directly at how to deal with the difficult people we encounter on the job, (both inside and outside the department). In addition, we have included a segment that deals with the development and use of humor on the job hosted by a headlining comedian.
-
Personal and Professional Transitions: Understanding how to keep your home and work life full, separate and complete so you can be fully engaged as a officer and a son, daughter, father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife...you get the picture.
-
Becoming a Peaceful Warrior. We have enlisted an exceptional talent in Dan Millman, an international best selling author, athlete and motivational speaker who will help you to develop a centered and balanced approach to the law enforcement profession.
-
Stress inoculation techniques. We show you how to enhance the quality of your sleep and restoration, as well as how to use breath control, stress management techniques and physical exercises to truly lower daily stress. We will also explore how to stay calm and centered during the extreme stress you face in combat situations.
-
Finding the passion for the job again! The material presented in this section is designed to give you back the context for your job that you enjoyed so much when you first started your career. Remember when you could not wait to get back to work, before all the baggage made law enforcement just another job? We are going to help you get the fire back so you can excel to higher levels in all aspects of your career.
I have also secured the endorsement of Lt. Col Dave Grossman, author of On Combat and On Killing, and Dr. Kevin Gilmartin, author of Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement. Both of these remarkable men understand the depth of this traIning and have given their full support!
Everyone attending our first workshop will receive an autographed copy of "On Killing" by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, a copy of "Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement" by Dr. Kevin Gilmartin and an autographed copy of my book, "The Warrior's Mantra". In addition, we will be having Dan Millman, an International best selling author and motivational speaker, doing a live presentation. This is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Dan Millman live at our workshop. Future classes will see a video production of this presentation as we will have professional videographers taping the show! We will also offer those attending the first workshop a free lifetime membership to the Ready Warrior Circle, an on-going support system with access to all instructors, newsletters and discounts on future products, DVD's and much more!
These classes are not California POST certified, however I do have expanded course outlines, POST resumes and hourly distribution forms so you can seek certification of this course for CPT credits.

Now, I must appeal to you for help. I've spent the better part of the last year working on this project. I want our first class, set for May 1st through 3rd, to be a huge success. That is why I want to fill this class with people from your agencies who want to make lasting changes. No one should attend this training because they were ordered to attend.
I also need each and every one of you to spread the word about this amazing class. Pleaes contact the people connected to training in your agencies so we can recruit as many students to this training as possible. Classes will be offered throughout the year and we are only accepting a maximum of 30 students per class to ensure each student's needs are met and enough time exists to get real one-on-one training!
Thank you for your help! Officer Rodger Ruge (Retired)
